Electricianin Tooting
Electrical work for the terraced houses, converted flats and rented homes of Tooting, carried out and tested by qualified electricians from Sutton.
Looking for electricians in Tooting who will explain the job before starting it? TH Electricians LTD is based in Sutton, and Tooting is about 5.7 miles north of our base. We carry out domestic electrical work for homeowners, tenants and landlords there. That includes rewires, fuse board upgrades, EICRs, lighting, extra sockets, fault finding and smart home installations. Tell us what is happening at your property when you ring, and we will say how we would deal with it and what we would need to look at first.

Terraces and converted flats in Tooting
Tooting has a great deal of Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing, and many of those houses have been divided into flats over the years. That mix shapes the electrical work we are asked about. A single-family terrace needs its wiring judged on its own condition, whereas a house split into two or three flats can have several separate supplies, extra cabling added at different times and a consumer unit that no longer matches how the building is used.
When we visit, we start by finding out what is installed and how it has been added to. Then we explain what is sound, what is worn and what would be sensible to change, so that you decide with the facts in front of you rather than a guess.

Fuse board and consumer unit upgrades
If your fuse board is an old type, with ceramic fuse holders or a scattering of mismatched switches, it is worth having looked at. Modern consumer units add protection that older boards do not have, and replacing one is often the first sensible step in bringing a house up to date.
The work usually goes like this:
- we inspect the existing board and the circuits connected to it
- we fit a new consumer unit suited to the property
- every circuit is tested before the supply is restored
- you receive certification for the work
The power has to be off while the board is swapped, and we tell you beforehand what to expect so you can plan around it.

Rewiring a Tooting house
A rewire means replacing the cables that run to the sockets, lights and switches. It is a bigger job than a fuse board swap, and it is usually recommended when the wiring is very old, damaged or no longer able to cope with the way the household uses electricity.
In older terraces, we often find that the original wiring has been patched with additions over the decades, with spurs off spurs and sockets in odd places. A partial rewire can address the worst areas, such as a kitchen or an upstairs circuit, while a full rewire starts again throughout. We explain both options, agree the order of work and how much will be disturbed, and test the finished installation. Notifiable work is certified under Part P.

Landlords and letting agents: EICRs and improvements
Tooting has a large rented sector, so landlord electrical work makes up a real share of what people ask us about. An EICR is an inspection and test of the installation in a let property, and it produces a written report on its condition, with a list of anything that needs attention.
We carry out EICRs for landlords, and where the report recommends remedial work we can quote to carry it out. You can also ask us about landlord electrical improvements more generally, such as replacing an outdated consumer unit or adding sockets to a room that lacks them. If you manage several flats in one building, tell us how they are arranged when you call so we can plan the testing sensibly.

Sockets, lighting and faults
Older flats and terraces rarely have enough sockets for modern life. Adding them properly, on suitable circuits rather than extension leads, is one of the most useful improvements a home can have, and it is quick compared with a rewire.
We also install and replace lighting: kitchen and hallway lights, fittings for a converted loft, outside lights and dimmer controls. When something goes wrong, such as a trip switch that will not stay on, a flickering circuit or a socket that has stopped working, we test methodically to find the cause and explain the fix before we carry it out. The aim is to leave you knowing what was wrong, not just that it works again.

Smart home and lighting control
More Tooting homes now have some form of smart control, whether that is lighting you can manage from a phone, connected thermostats or a set-up planned around a new extension. These systems work best when the wiring behind them has been thought about first.
We fit smart home and lighting installations, and we can advise on where the wiring needs to change to support them. If you are already renovating, it is usually simplest to plan the smart elements with the rest of the electrics so that cable is run once. Tell us what you would like to be able to do, and we will explain what is involved.

Business premises too
We are mainly asked about homes in Tooting, but TH Electricians LTD also works as a commercial electrical contractor. If you run a shop or a small office nearby, we can help with fit-out electrics, lighting, data cabling and planned maintenance.
Mention it when you call and we will talk through the premises and what you need. As with a house, we begin by looking at what is already installed, explain what we find and test everything we fit.

Electricians in Tooting: common questions
Can you work in a flat that is part of a converted house?
Yes. Many Tooting homes are flats in converted terraces. Tell us how the building is arranged and which parts of the installation are yours, and we will plan the work and testing around that.
Do you carry out EICRs for landlords in Tooting?
Yes. An EICR reports on the condition of the existing wiring and lists anything that needs attention. If remedial work is recommended, we can quote for it, though you can use someone else if you prefer.
How do I know if I need a rewire or just a new fuse board?
It depends on the condition of the cables, not just the board. We inspect and test the installation first, then explain whether a fuse board upgrade is enough or a full or partial rewire would be sensible.
Will the work be certified?
Yes. We test our work when it is complete, and notifiable domestic work is certified under Part P. We are registered with NAPIT and explain the paperwork when the job is handed over.
