Electricianin Merton
Domestic electrical work for homes across the London Borough of Merton, from Wimbledon and Merton Park to Colliers Wood, Mitcham and Morden.
If you are looking for an electrician in Merton, TH Electricians LTD is a Sutton-based firm that carries out domestic electrical work for homeowners, tenants and landlords across the borough. We handle rewires, fuse board upgrades, EICRs, lighting, sockets, fault finding and smart home installations. Merton is about 5.0 miles north of our Sutton base, so it is a short run for us. Call, tell us what is wrong or what you want done, and we will explain how we would approach it before any work is agreed.

One borough, several different kinds of home
The London Borough of Merton is not one neighbourhood. It takes in Wimbledon, Merton Park, Colliers Wood, Mitcham and Morden, and the housing changes as you move between them. Much of the borough is Victorian, Edwardian and interwar houses, with flats and conversions among them, and each type tends to raise its own electrical questions.
An older terrace may still have wiring from an earlier decade, while a house that has been extended may have new circuits added to an old board. Our first job on any visit is to look at what is actually installed. We explain what we find in plain terms, whether it is fine as it is or needs attention, and then quote for the work you decide to go ahead with. Nothing is assumed from the postcode.

Rewires for older Merton houses
A full or partial rewire is the answer when the wiring itself has reached the end of its useful life. Signs that point that way include cloth-covered or rubber-covered cable, sockets that are warm or discoloured, fuses that keep blowing, and too few sockets so that extension leads run across the room.
We carry out full and partial rewires in occupied and empty homes. A partial rewire can be the sensible option when only part of the house has been a problem, such as an upstairs lighting circuit or a kitchen that is being refitted. We talk through the choice with you, explain the order of work and what will be disturbed, and test the installation when we finish. Notifiable work is certified under Part P, and you receive the paperwork for it.

Fuse board upgrades
The fuse board, or consumer unit, is the heart of the installation. An old board with rewirable fuses or no modern protection is one of the most common findings in older homes, and replacing it is often a good first step even when the rest of the wiring is sound.
A modern consumer unit adds protection that older boards lack, including devices that cut the supply quickly when a fault develops. Our upgrades cover:
- removing the old board and fitting a new consumer unit
- checking that the existing circuits are suitable to connect
- testing every circuit before it is switched back on
- certification and an explanation of what each way on the board controls
If testing shows a circuit that is not safe to reconnect, we tell you and explain the options.

EICRs for landlords, buyers and sellers
An Electrical Installation Condition Report, or EICR, is an inspection and test of the wiring that already exists in a property. It ends with a written report on the condition of the installation and a list of anything that needs to be put right.
Landlords in Merton often need one for a let property, and some buyers and sellers ask for one before a sale completes. The report is factual: it says what was tested, what was found and what is recommended. If it lists remedial work, we can quote for doing it, but you are under no obligation to use us for the repairs. If you are not sure whether your situation calls for a report, ring and ask, and we will tell you plainly.

Lighting, sockets and finding the fault
Not every job is a rewire. A great deal of domestic electrical work is smaller and just as worth doing properly: extra sockets in a room where there are never enough, new lighting in a kitchen or hallway, outside lights, or a circuit that keeps tripping for no obvious reason.
Fault finding is a matter of testing methodically rather than guessing. We isolate circuits, test them, and follow the problem back to its source, then explain what has failed and what it would take to fix. For lighting work we can talk through positions, switching and the type of fittings before we start, so the result suits the way you use the room.

Renovations and smart home installations
When a Merton house is being renovated, the electrics are best planned before the plaster goes on. Moving a kitchen, converting a loft or knocking two rooms into one all change what the wiring needs to do, and it is far easier to run cable while walls and ceilings are open.
We carry out electrical upgrades during renovation, working alongside the rest of your project, and we also fit smart home and lighting systems. If you want controllable lighting, or a home set up so that more of it can be managed from a phone, tell us what you have in mind and we will explain what is involved. We keep the wiring behind it as tidy and well tested as any other job.

Commercial work as well
Although most of what we do around Merton is domestic, TH Electricians LTD is also a commercial electrical contractor. If you run a shop or a small office in the borough, we can help with fit-out electrics, lighting, data cabling and planned maintenance.
That is a short mention rather than the focus of this page, so if you have commercial premises, mention it when you call and we will go through what you need. Whether the job is at home or at work, the approach is the same: look at what is there, explain it clearly, do the work properly and test it.

Electrician in Merton: common questions
Which parts of Merton do you cover?
We cover the London Borough of Merton, including Wimbledon, Merton Park, Colliers Wood, Mitcham and Morden. We also work in nearby areas such as Earlsfield, Southfields and Raynes Park. If your address is not on that list, call and ask.
Do you do small jobs or only rewires?
We take on small domestic jobs as well as larger ones. Extra sockets, lighting changes and tracing a fault are all part of our regular work, as are fuse board upgrades, EICRs and full or partial rewires.
Will I get a certificate after the work?
Yes. Work is tested when it is finished, and notifiable domestic work is certified under Part P. We are registered with NAPIT, and we explain the paperwork when we hand the job over.
Can you inspect a rental property for a landlord?
Yes. We carry out EICRs for landlords, and the report sets out the condition of the installation and any remedial work recommended. If work is needed, we can quote for it, though you can choose who does the repairs.
